Not just a chorister ….. !

Exeter Cathedral School is celebrating success on the high seas as Rosalila, a Year 8 pupil and Cathedral Chorister, qualified for the British Youth Sailing Regional Junior Championships at Weymouth last month. She’s obviously a very busy girl as you will discover as you read on!

Rosalila swapped the Choir Stalls for the water as she competed in the South West RS 20” Feva class, sailing as part of the South West Regional Squad. When she returned to dry land, Rosalila said: “I am delighted to have been selected for the regional sailing squad. I love learning the skills of sailing – how to understand the wind and tides and the art and technical side too. It can be exhausting and challenging but really rewarding!”

The annual celebration of all that’s great about junior sailing is about having fun, high quality racing and inspiring junior sailors. The event was the largest of the Championships which took place across the country as 300 youngsters took to the water. They were joined by London 2012 Paralympic gold and Rio 2016 bronze Olympian Helena Lucas and Team GB 49er FX Olympic sailor, Saskia Tidey.

It’s all about partnership

Director of Sport, Mrs Emma Ross: “We have a focus on participation, development and enjoyment whilst still catering for our elite athletes. I know that Rosalila particularly enjoys working with her partner and learning how to sail together as a team. It’s an exhilarating sport and we are so proud of her – we can’t wait to hear more about her next challenge!”

Headmaster, Mr James Featherstone: “We are delighted for Rosalila – she is super hard-working and throws herself into the superb Sport & Wellbeing Programme here at ECS – and we are incredibly proud of her. Her latest triumph is a great example of how even a busy Cathedral Chorister can jump into a full range of opportunities.”
