Eton Choral Courses Open for Applications!
“The Eton Choral Courses change lives, open doors, reveal new horizons. Over the years they have become a pillar of our cultural life in Britain, with the wonder of music setting an example for us all.” John Rutter CBE
Now in their 39th year, these courses continue to attract and inspire young singers from all over the world. This summer there will be four courses under the direction of Ben Parry, Tim Johnson, Simon Toyne and Ralph Allwood for 16-18 year olds. A fifth course is designed for those aged 19-26.
Singers prepare for two or three main performances but there are also sessions in sight-reading, aural tests and performance as well as vocal master-classes, a cappella workshops and sessions with visiting conductors. They also receive advice on choral scholarships, singing beyond school and have lessons in the Alexander Technique.
There is also a wonderful opportunity for organists to develop their accompanying skills by working with an excellent choir under expert guidance. They can enjoy their own sessions on repertoire, improvisation and other keyboard skills, while gaining lots of tips on singing techniques along the way.
Lots more information and an application form is available at www.etonchoralcourses.co.uk. Places are limited so start exploring now!
Junior Choral Courses, led by Ralph Allwood and Martyn Ford, also provide unique opportunities for children aged 8-15 to enjoy singing at a very high level.
The first residential week-long course is at Cheltenham College from 2-8 April with two summer courses at Cheltenham College and Wellington College.
Each course culminates in a concert which combines a major choral work with lighter repertoire. They are open to all, irrespective of school and there are bursaries available. Viv Brett’s photo shows that there’s lots of fun and social time too!
