Felix is 2014 Winning Composer
Congratulations to Felix Kirkby, a chorister at York Minster, who is this year’s winner of the Sir David Willcocks Composition Competition. Choristers were asked to compose a short introit from words by Samuel Longfellow and we were delighted to have 26 entries this year. CSA is very grateful to Jonathan Willcocks who once again was the adjudicator and comments: “the overall standard was very encouraging with more compositions showing real sensitivity and musical sophistication.” Second prize went to George Herbert from Chethams School, Manchester and the three runners-up were: Joel Branston (St John’s College School, Cambridge), Joseph Hancock (New College School, Oxford) and Alex Trigg (King’s College School, Cambridge). Jonathan also specially commended two very promising compositions from 9 year-olds Thomas Alban and Theo Kennedy, both from King’s Cambridge.
