Unlocking Musical Talent!
Two girl choristers from Wells Cathedral were finalists and prize winners in an international online singing competition, Unlock Your Talent, over the summer. Congratulations Beth and Belinda!
Year 8 pupil Elizabeth Burdge entered the 12 to 18 category, singing Amarilli Mia Bella by Caccini; and Belinda Gifford-Guy in Year 5, the 6 to 11 category, singing Wishing you were Somehow Here Again by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Both girls are pupils at Wells Cathedral School.
With celebrity judges from The Voice and English National Opera, and young people competing from as far away as Australia, competition was tough and both girls were thrilled to make it through not only the first round, but the semi-finals and then to the finals.
Out of
hundreds of entries, Beth came second and Belinda, third, in their respective
categories, winning vouchers for recording sessions.
The girls said, “It
was lovely to be singing as we had missed Wells Cathedral so much! Thank you to
Mr Cole for his encouragement and for allowing us to take part. We can’t wait to
be back singing together as a choir soon.”
